Named for the tropical evergreen tree, in Latin known as Mitragyna Speciosa, kratom is extracted from the leaves. Its parent tree is related to the coffee tree, and you’ll see some of the same effects that kratom has upon those who are familiar with caffeine.
Kratom has become more popular in recent years, due to helping those who have chronic pain, or who are quitting opioids. Kratom hasn’t had any formal trials or studies to determine its use on these types of addiction; however, many users have said that kratom is actually really good for anxiety.
Different Kratom Strains
If you look closely at the leaves from the parent tree, you’ll see that there are three different color combinations. The leaf veins can be red, green, or white. These correspond to different strains of kratom, which also each have a different effect when taken since they have different chemical compositions. You can mix more than one strain together to create the perfect dosage for you.
Three types of kratom strains:
• Red Kratom
• Green Kratom
• White Kratom
When you start shopping for kratom, you’ll notice that sometimes the strains are named after their country of origin, such as Bali, Borneo, Malaysian, Indo (for Indonesia), or Southeast Asian names such as Maeng Da. Each country can produce any of the three strains. So, for example, you can buy Bali Red, Bali White, Or Bali Green kratom strains.
Suffering from Anxiety
Now that you know the different strains, it helps to know a little bit more about anxiety, so that you can make the best decision you can about which kratom strain from which country to purchase it from. Kratom has varying side effects depending on a multitude of factors, so you could feel anything from stimulated and energetic (similar to its coffee cousin caffeine), or relaxed, mellow, and feeling comfortable and confident in your own skin.
Anxiety is a strong feeling of worry, nervousness, uneasiness, or a threatening stress level. For many, anxiety is felt when you’re put on the spot, have to speak in front of a crowd or give a presentation, have important deadlines coming up, or when reliving a traumatic episode.
However, true anxiety sufferers feel a general heightened level of anxiety on a daily basis. It doesn’t dissipate even after the source of the worry or the perceived threat has gone away. That’s when it’s characterized as a mental health disorder, the patient seeks treatment, and sometimes medication is used to help calm the nervous system and relieve the body of living ‘on edge’ in a stressful manner.
People with anxiety feel it in multiple ways: overactive thinking and/or racing thoughts, a clenched stomach or gut, tense shoulders and upper arms, hunched over posture (in an effort for the body to protect itself from the threat), an elevated heart rate, and shallower breathing.
Studies have shown that anxiety is also evident in the brain, and both the amygdala and the hippocampus are involved. When you feel anxious or threatened, the brain releases both norepinephrine and cortisol, which are hormones designed to prepare your body to deal with the threat.
The Best Kratom for Anxiety
Anxiety sufferers are looking to not just reduce their anxiety, but to relieve all of the symptoms and feel more confident, more secure, safer, and healthier overall. That’s where kratom comes in. Some of the strains are the best for anxiety because they promote relaxation, general ease, confidence, and a greater sense of well-being.
Before you go trying the first kratom you find, let’s make sure that we’ve narrowed down the best ones for anxiety; the wrong ones will give you a jolt of energy and may actually increase your anxiety!
Red Strain Kratom
This is the most popular, and you’ll find it’s produced by each of the kratom countries. Red strains create calming and pleasant effects, giving you peace of mind, optimism and a general sense of well-being. You are advised to take red strain kratom at night, because it’s a mild sedative as well and is suitable as a sleep aid. Red Kratom tea would be a lovely drink to take just before bed.
The most calming red strains are Red Thai, Red Borneo, Red Riau, and Red Indo. You wouldn’t want to take the Red Sumatra since that creates an elevated mood. Also, in small doses, it is much more stimulating. Red Indo is the opposite – it’s quite a sedative, so others mix it with a little bit of a white strain to boost the energy.
White Strain Kratom
You probably wouldn’t want to take white strain kratom all by itself for anxiety, due to its stimulating effects. Some users mix a little bit with the red strain to feel a more balanced energy. But if you have very severe anxiety, choose either the green or red instead.
Green Strain Kratom
Green Kratom is very interesting because it’s a very mild energy booster just like the white strain, but it also helps calm social fears. If you suffer from social anxiety or public speaking anxiety, then this strain would be very beneficial for you.
Green Kratom also has a higher level of alkaloids, which means its chemical composition is good for anxiety. You won’t feel as afraid or nervous, and others’ opinions won’t seem as important to you. Some types to try include Super Green Indo, Super Green Malaysian, Green Bali, and Green Borneo, which is probably the best. Some green strains, like the Green Borneo, are more of a sedative than others.
Living with anxiety, whether it’s for a short period of time or for a lifetime, can be debilitating. Those who truly feel anxious aren’t necessarily fretting all the time; it’s more like the nerves are stretched taut and the body is in a perpetual ‘fight or flight’ state of being. The anxiety never truly ceases, causing great and prolonged harmful effects on the sufferer’s general state of mind and well-being.
But now, thanks to your personal mix of kratom strains, you can feel much less anxiety and have a more relaxing life.
Until next time,
